SCSU Women's Basketball Drops NE10 Matchup At Saint Anselm, 63-61

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Southern Connecticut women's basketball lost to Saint Anselm, 63-61, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup in Manchester, N.H. With the loss, Southern dropped to 10-7 overall and 5-6 in the conference while Saint Anselm improved to 8-10 overall and 4-8 in conference play.

Zoe Amalbert (Nanuet, N.Y.) and Isabella Santoro (Durham, Conn.) both turned in 20-point performances with Amalbert totaling 23 and Santoro going for a season-high 21. Amalbert was 3-for-6 from three-point range while Santoro had a team-high three steals while going 9-for-11 from the floor.

Saint Anselm used an early 7-0 lead to take a 14-7 lead in the first quarter before the Owls came back to end the quarter trailing, 16-12. The Owls scored the first five points of the second quarter to take a 17-16 lead and then traded baskets with the Hawks to a 23-23 tie. The rest of the quarter played out even as the two teams went to the break, tied at 29-29.

Coming out of the half, the Owls used an 8-2 lead to take a 37-31 lead, with Santoro accounting for six of Southern's points. Santoro finished with eight points in the quarter, while Amalbert added another six as the Owls took a 50-45 lead into the fourth.

In the fourth, Delaney Connors scored twice in the first three minutes, while her offensive rebound fed Santoro, as the Owls pushed their lead to eight points, 57-49. A Katie Williamson jumper with 4:38 to play held the Owls lead at eight, but it would be the last field goal until the closing seconds of regulation as Saint Anselm used a 12-2 run down the stretch to comeback and take the homecourt win.

Southern will look to bounce back when it travels to Southern New Hampshire on Tuesday, Jan. 24 for a NE10 showdown at 5:30 p.m.
