SCSU Men's Indoor T&F Wins Three NE10 Weekly Awards

MANSFIELD, Conn. - Southern Connecticut men's indoor track and field won three of the five major Northeast 10 Weekly Awards as Cameron Belton was named Field Athlete of the Week, Nolan Freeman was named Track Rookie of the Week and Kenneth Okoye was named Field Rookie of the Week, while Jonathan Volpe was named to the Honor Roll.

At the UMass Lowell River Hawk Invitational, Southern dominated the 54-athlete Shot Put event as it claimed four of the top 10 spots. Cameron Belton led the Owls with a win in the Shot Put with a distance of 16.68m (54' 8 ¾").

Freeman won his second event in as many times on the track this season as he won the 60 Meter Dash at the John Thomas Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University at The TRACK at New Balance in Boston, Mass. Freeman's time in the 60 Meter Dash posted at 6.99 for the win out of 57 runners, with half of the list comprised of NCAA Division I runners. Freeman is coming off a win in the 55 Meters at the William Sutherland Invitational last wee that earned him Northeast 10 Track Freshman of the Week. The Owls' freshman also finished tied for 10th out of 121 in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 22.00, which also stands as the Owls' top time of the indoor season.

At the River Hawk Invitational, Okoye finished 10th in the High Jump with a score of 1.91m (6' 3 1/4"). Okoye's score was a NCAA Division II provisional score and the top Division II score in the 19-athlete field at the River Hawk Invitational.

At the UMass Lowell River Hawk Invitational, Jonathon Volpe led the Owls with a win in the 800 Meter Run. Volpe finished first ahead of the 53-runner field, crossing with a time of 1:52.46.
