WORCESTER, Mass.- No. 7 Southern Connecticut women's basketball was defeated by No. 2 Assumption, 60-44, in the Northeast 10 Conference Championship Quarterfinal in Worcester, Mass. With the loss, the Owls conclude their season at 18-11.

Isabella Santoro (Durham, Conn.) led the Owls with 17 points and eight rebounds and four steals. She made all seven of her free throw attempts. Zoe Amalbert (Nanuet, N.Y.) finished with 16 points, four rebounds and four steals. 

Assumption took a quick lead over Southern in the first quarter, going on a seven point run early on to make the score 11-2 within the first six minutes. The Owls fell quickly behind as they were unable to even the scoring gap at the end of the first period and suffered a 12 point deficit, 19-7. Santoro notched the most points for the Owls from the start with five. 

The Greyhounds pulled away further in the second quarter. In just the first minute, a three-pointer by Assumption pushed the Owls to a 15 point deficit, 22-7. The Owls fought to come back and finished the period at 33-19. Santoro notched 9 points in the half while Amalbert came in with 6. 

Amalbert notched four more points in the third quarter, but the Owls could not hang on. Assumption ran up the scoreline to take as much as a 23 point advantage with a minute remaining. Amalbert notched her tenth point of the game off a good jumper to end the quarter at 49-28.

The Owls tried to even the score in the fourth quarter, but they were out of time. Santoro totaled with 17 points on the game while Amalbert finished with 16. There were only five Owls who scored in the game aside from Santoro and Amalbert. Ashley Evans (Londonderry, N.H.) and Katie Williamson (Dublin, Ireland) each had four points, while Delaney Connors (West Hartford, Conn.) put in three. The Owls finished the game at a 60-44 loss to end the season.
