Weekly Preview: Tuesday Tripleheader At Jess Dow Field On Sept. 19

It's a busy week in New Haven, including a Tuesday Triple Header at Jess Dow Field on Sept. 19 featuring men's soccer's tilt against Elm City rival University of New Haven at 1 p.m., field hockey hosts Assumption at 4 p.m. and women's soccer hosts Pace at 7 p.m.

Volleyball plays a pair of home games on Thursday, Sept. 21 and Friday, Sept. 22 and football welcomes Bentley on Saturday, Sept. 23 for a 12 p.m. kickoff.

Blue Crew Tailgate Tour
SCSU Blue Crew, the Official student fan group of Southern Connecticut State University, will host its Tailgate Tour for volleyball's match against against Holy Family, sponsored by Dayton Street Pizza.

The Owls were 1-1 last week, including a 1-0 win against Saint Rose in its Northeast-10 Conference opener. Jacob Rose scored the Owls' lone goal in that contest. Against Queens in a 2-1 loss, Umberto Catale accounted for Southern's only goal against the Knights. In addition to hosting New Haven on Tuesday, the Owls will also travel to Manchester, N.H. on Saturday, Sept. 23 for a 1 p.m. tilt at Saint Anselm.

Notes: Jacob Rose leads Southern with two goals this season … Zico Groenveld leads the Owls with two assists, while also adding a goal .. Rose and Groenveld are tied with a team-lead four points each … Umberto Catale and Tyler Doherty have also scored for the Owls this season … In goal, Devin Juan is 2-2-1 with a .810 save percentage (17-for-21) with a 0.80 goals-against average.

SCSU Field Hockey hosts Assumption on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. at Jess Dow Field. The Owls are coming off a 5-3 loss at American International in which Meghan Tillona scored twice and Tori Geaglone also scored for the Owls. In addition to Assumption on Tuesday, the Owls also host Franklin Pierce on Friday, Sept. 22.
Notes: Tori Geaglone currently leads the Owls in goals (4) and points (9) through five games. She also has a team-best two defensive saves on the season … Trinidad Rodriguez Ricchiuti has scored three times and assisted on two more goals for eight points … Meghan Tillona is tied with Geaglone with a team-best four goals for the season … Kyla Hart-Perron's two assists ties Rodriguez Ricchiuti for the team-lead … Against AIC, Mia Oliverio picked up her first career point with an assist on Tillona's second goal … nine different Owls have accumulated points to date, while seven different players have scored a goal.

SCSU Women's Soccer hosts Pace for the third game of SCSU Athletic's Tuesday Triple Header when the Setters come to Jess Dow Field on Tuesday, Sept. 19 for a 7 p.m. tilt. The Owls are coming off three-straight wins in which they have outscored their opponents, 11-0, including a 6-0 win against Post, 2-0 against Holy Family and a 3-0 NE10 opening win against St. Michael's. Southern will also travel to Saint Rose on Saturday, Sept. 23.

Notes: Kelsey Burr led the Owls with three goals an assist in a pair of wins last week. Burr scored twice and also had an assist against St. Michael's and has now scored in three-straight games. She leads the Owls and ranks among the conference leaders with four goals and an assist for nine points for the season … Kylee Slavik has also scored in three-straight for the Owls, highlighted by a one-goal, one-assist game against St. Michael's. Slavik has three goals and an assist for seven points for the season … Kat Mancinone sits at two goals for the year … Alexie Rosado leads the team with two assists while also adding a goal for four points for the season … Nicky Deslauriers and Ashley Wright have also scored for the Owls. In goal, Abby Aughe is 3-1-1 with a 0.61 goals against average in 441.15 minutes in goal. Aughe has posted back-to-back shutouts and has allowed a goal in 210:51 consecutive minutes over her last three games.

Southern Connecticut volleyball will take from the tri-match life for this week, instead hosting Holy Family on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 5 p.m. and Daemen on Friday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. at Pelz Gym. The Owls will also head to University of New Haven for a NE10 matchup at its Elm City Rival on Saturday, Sept. 23.

Notes: Sara Enright has led the Owls this season with 151 points in 42 sets for a 3.60 per set average. Enright has totaled a team-high 120 kills for a 2.86 average while also leading the team with 25 aces. She's also second on the team with 117 digs … First-year Owl Carissa Michel has totaled 118 points with 91 kills and 19 aces while hitting a team-high .265. Michel is also third on the team with 12 blocks and fourth with 76 digs … Kacey Deecher gives the Owls a third 100-point scorer, sitting at 100.5 for the year. Deecher also has 16 aces and seven blocks … Sarah Stark leads Southern with 28 blocks in 42 sets for a 0.67 average while Kendall Webber has 23 blocks in 30 sets for a team-high 0.77 per set average … Aubrey Villena leads the team with 117 digs and also has 13 aces for the season … Taylor Jones leads the Owls with 235 assists for a 5.88 per set average.

Southern will look to bounce back from a loss at New Haven when it hosts Bentley on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 12 p.m. at Jess Dow Field. Southern is one of five teams in the NE10 average 20-or-more points per game (20.7) and one of four to average 300-or-more yards of total offense (332) per game.

This past weekend, Tylon Pappalo led all NE10 received with eight catches for 88 yards while also securing a 32-yard touchdown catch against the Chargers.

On defense, the Owls' linebacker corps led the way as Jahlil Watson, Bryan Barnes, Hasan Dominick, Jr. and Joe DiGello accounted for 32 of the Owls' 79 tackles in the game. Watson and Barnes had nine tackles each while Watson had 1.5 tackles for a loss. Dominick and DiGello both had seven tackles, while DiGello recorded a sack and forced a fumble that was recovered by Sheldon Gargano. Dominick also had a pass breakup and led the Owls with two quarterback hurries.

Notes: For the year, Keith Ridley is 62-for-99 (62.6%) for a NE10 best 701 passing yards while also leading the conference with 233.7 yards per game. His 129.7 passing efficiency ranks third in the NE10 while his four touchdown passes rank fifth … Tylon Papallo sits as the NE10's top receiver through three weeks of the season with a NE10 best 21 catches, 257 yards and 85.7 yards per game average. He also ranks fifth with a 12.2 yards per catch average. Papallo also ranks fourth in all-purpose yards with 101.7 per game … Shawn Martin ranks second in the NE10 with 109.3 all-purpose yards per game. To date, he's totaled 173 yards on the ground, 121 receiving yards and 34 kick-off return yards … On defense, Jahlil Watson leads the team and ranks seventh in the NE10 with 21 tackles … Joenel Figueroa ranks fifth in the NE10 with 13 solo tackles … Joe DiGello is fifth in the NE10 with two sacks. DiGello has also totaled 19 tackles, three tackles for a loss and forced one fumble … Hasan Dominick has registered 18 tackles for the year with one sack, two tackles for a loss and has one pass break up.
