NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's soccer saw a back-and-forth battle against Pace end in a 3-3 tie in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Jess Dow Field. With the tie, the Owls move to 3-1-2 overall and 1-0-1 in NE10 play while Pace went to 3-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the NE10.
Kelsey Burr, Aimee Girard and Nicky Deslauriers all scored for the Owls while Amanda Dustin and Taylor Hennig picked up assists. Southern is currently 3-0-1 in its last four games and remain undefeated through its first two NE10 Conference matchups.
Pace took an early lead with a goal midway through the first half by Alyssa Cabral before holding the Owls scoreless to head into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
NE10 Player of the Week Kelsey Burr scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season, while also scoring in her fourth -straight game, 22 minutes into the second half. Burr took a pass from Amanda Dustin at the top of the box and beat the Pace keeper to the lower right corner to tie the game at 1-1.
Just over two minutes later, the Owls had a corner which they played along the sideline to Taylor Hennig. Hennig, from in front of the Owls' bench, sent a pass on goal. Aimee Girard leaped over the scrum in front of the goal and headed the go-ahead goal past the Pace keeper to give Southern a 2-1 lead.
With less than 10 minutes to go, the Owls drew a foul deep in their defensive zone. Shiann Reeves sent a pass upfield to Burr in the Setters' defensive zone. Burr maneuvered around a defender and sent a pass into the corner for Nicky Deslaurier, and then cut to the front of the goal.
Deslaurier guided a pass to Burr who one-touched it on goal. The rebound fell to Deslaurier who blasted a shot that went through the hands of the Pace keeper to give the Owls a 3-1 lead.
Pace answered with two goals in the final minutes to pull out the tie on the road.
Southern is back in action when it takes on the College of Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup in Albany, N.Y. on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m.
