SCSU Women's Swimming & Diving Defeats Shippensburg At WCU Tri-Meet

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Southern Connecticut State University women's swimming & diving split its season-opening tri-meet in West Chester, Pa., finishing behind host West Chester, 206.50-84.50 and ahead of Shippensburg, 179-99.

Jasmine Uricchio won the 400 Yard Freestyle event and also finished second in the 1000 Yard Freestyle. Brooke Keeney won the 200 Yard IM and was also the Owls' top finisher in the 200-yard Freestyle. Uricchio, Arianna Arturi, Hailey Nyquist and Paola Castillo also won the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.

200 Yard Individual Medley
Brooke Keeney touched for first place with a time of 2:20.26. First-year Owl Emma St. Hilaire was second at 2:22.18 while Lindsay McCawley finished third at 2:24.80.

1000 Yard Freestyle
Uricchio started the day with a second-place finish in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:53.85.

200 Yard Freestyle
Brooke Keeney finished fourth in the 200 Free with a time of 2:01.77.

100 Yard Backstroke
Hailey Nyquist finished fourth in the 100 Back with a time of 1:01.82.

100 Yard Breaststroke
First-year Owl Abigail Lyons paced the Owls in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:14.15.

200 Yard Butterfly
Paola Castillo grabbed a third-place finish in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:16.18 while Lindsay McCawley was fifth at 2:25.01.

50 Yard Freestyle
Ella Marzec finished fourth in the 50 Free with a time of 26.15 while Arianna Arturi was fifth at 26.28.

1 Meter Diving
Nicholle Denault posted a score of 194.18 in the 1 Meter Diving event for second place, finishing just five points behind the leader.

100 Yard Freestyle
Uricchio also had a strong showing in the 100 Free with a time of 56.99 for fifth place, just .05 off the fourth-place finisher.

200 Yard Breaststroke
Lindsay McCawley finished third in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:36.84 while first-year Owl Emma St. Hilaire was fourth at 2:36.86.

500 Yard Freestyle
Castillo turned in another top time for the Owls with a third-place finish in the 500 Free with a time of 5:33.24.

100 Yard Butterfly
Uricchio continued to lead the Owls, this time with a second-place finish in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:00.97.

3 Meter Diving
Denault posted a score of 201.30 in the 3 Meter Diving event for third place, trailing second place by two points, and the leader by eight points.

The Owls are back in action when they compete in the Fairfield Invitational on Oct. 6-7. The diving events will take place on Friday, Oct. 6 while the swimming events commence on Saturday, Oct. 7, with 6 p.m. set for the start time for both.
