Game Recap: Field Hockey |

SCSU Field Hockey Tops Mercy, 4-3

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut field hockey scored three third quarter goals to come from behind and defeat Mercy, 4-3, in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Jess Dow Field. With the win, the Owls close the 2024 season with an overall record of 6-12 including a 4-9 record in NE10 games while Mercy dropped to 6-11 overall and 3-10 in conference play.

Ruby Webb scored the game-winner with less than five minute to play while Keana Criscuolo had two goals and an assist. Kate Salvador added a goal an assist and Natalia Fiato had an assist on Criscuolo's first goal. In the cage, Lyndsay Troisi stopped 11 shots-on-goal in the win as she finished the year at 4-5-0 with a .747 save percentage.

Criscuolo completes a brilliant freshman campaign that saw the local product lead the team with eight goals and 17 points. Trinidad Rodriguez Ricchiuti's assist gives her a team-high five assists for the season.

Criscuolo scored the game's first goal just three minutes into regulation when she cleaned up a shot by Fiato and tucked in just inside the Mavericks' goal. Mercy responded with goals in the second quarter to send the game to halftime tied before scoring again inside of the second half's first five minutes.

Trailing 2-1, Criscuolo carried the ball across the goal front and then sent a pass to Salvador who tipped it enough to redirect it past Mercy's goalkeeper. Five minutes later, Criscuolo scored her second of the game to give Southern a 3-2 lead, but Mercy responded two minutes later with the game-tying goal.

With less than five minutes to play. Rodriguez Ricchiuti inserted the ball on the corner and then drifted to the near-side post. The Owls worked the ball down to her before Rodriguez Ricchiuti found a seam in the Mavericks' defense and fed Wedd on the opposite post. Webb moved around one defender before sending the game-winner to the back of the cage.
