Box Score WALTHAM, Mass. – Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball lost to No. 4 Saint Anselm, 59-41, in the NCAA East Regional in Waltham, Mass. With the loss, Southern Connecticut finishes the year at 19-11.
Delaney Haines led the Owls with 12 points while
Katie Williamson had eight points and seven rebounds, as well as three assists and two steals.
Jillian Martin and
Ally Sentance both scored seven points while
Hope Fox had a team-best eight rebounds.
Saint Anselm took an early 6-3 lead with 6:15 to go in the first quarter before the Owls countered with a 12-2 run to take a 15-8 lead at the break. The Owls held the advantage in rebounds at the first intermission and allowed just one offensive rebound to the Hawks. On the other end of the court, Southern turned six offensive rebounds into eight points in the first 10 minutes.
Saint Anselm responded with a 9-2 run to open the second quarter over the first two minutes of the period to tie the game at 17-17 as the Owls burned a timeout. The Owls bounced back, first with a

Jillian Martin knocked down a three was the shot clock expired to give Southern a 22-17 lead.
Ally Sentance then followed with a three-pointer from long range that pushed Southern's lead back to eight points, 25-17. Saint Anselm closed the first half on a 9-0 run to take a 28-27 lead at halftime as they outscored the Owls, 11-5, over the last four minutes of the half.
Saint Anselm pushed its run to 22-4 as they built a 10-point lead, 39-29, with just under six minutes to play in the third. The Hawks maintained the lead for most of the quarter, outscoring Southern, 18-11, to take a 46-38 lead heading into the final period. Saint Anselm held off the Southern offense in the second half, outscoring Southern, 13-3, in the final period to close out the win.
