Athletic Facilities
Jess Dow Field
Dedicated in 1988, Jess Dow Field is a multi-million dollar stadium facility which can accommodate football, soccer, field hockey and track and field.
The artificially surfaced playing field is surrounded by an eight-lane, state-of -the-art 400 - meter track. Directly adjacent to Moore Fieldhouse, Jess Dow Field is lighted and has a seating capacity of 6,000.
Jess Dow Field has been the site of NCAA championship contests, Connecticut high school football championships and annually hosts the New Haven County Special Olympic Games.
Moore Field House
James W. Moore Field House is Southern’s primary indoor athletic complex. The facility underwent a complete floor restoration in the fall of 2007, including a placement of the new Owls’ logo at center court.
The main arena, with a permanent seating capacity of 2,800, has a six-lane, artificially-surfaced track (200 meters), which was completely renovated in the summer of 1997.
The fieldhouse is utilized for all major indoor events and can accommodate multiple practice sessions simultaneously. Drop curtains and netting allow the main arena to accommodate a complete baseball or softball infield for practice as well as the traditional indoor programs.
Moore Field House also has complete weight-training facilities, locker rooms and equipment rooms.
Through the years, Moore Field House has played host to numerous collegiate and scholastic championship events.
Hutchinson Natatorium
Located inside of Moore Fieldhouse, Hutchinson Natatorium has an eight-lane pool with both
one- and three-meter diving boards and a Colorado timing system. In addition to serving as the meet facility for the Owls, Hutchinson Natatorium has also hosted numerous collegiate and scholastic championship events.
The Ballpark at SCSU
The construction of Southern Connecticut State University's first on-campus baseball complex was completed in the summer of 2001. Phase I of the new on-campus baseball complex was dedicated on Sept. 15, 2001.
Former SCSU players took part in an alumni game following the ceremonies. In addition to the field, Phase I included an initial section of seating as well as a concourse area.
Phase II, which is scheduled to begin when campus renovations happening along side of the complex are complete, has plans to expanded the seating/concourse area and add a press box.
Pelz Gymnasium/Field
Pelz Gymnasium is utilized by numerous programs, including the Owls' volleyball team, as well as physical education classes and intramurals/recreation.
The facility has a recently renovated six-lane pool and an independent, auxiliary gymnasium specifically for women's gymnastics practice.
Located directly behind Pelz Gym is Pelz Field.
