Southern Connecticut State University Athletics

The Southern Connecticut State University athletic department presents several awards on an annual basis for outstanding athletic achievement - the University Scholar-Athlete Award, the Male Senior Scholar-Athlete Award and the Female Senior Scholar-Athlete Award. In addition, one team is recognized annually with the Academic Team of Champions Award.

Selected student-athletes have also received the Barnard Award, which is open to eligible seniors across the entire SCSU campus. A total of four individuals are selected each year from SCSU. The winners are recognized at an event featuring all CSCU schools in the spring.

In addition, the athletic department currently awards an individual award for outstanding community service contributions, and also previously issued a team honor in this classification.

While numerous coaching and team-affiliated organizations issue academic honors to student-athletes each year, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America program has been the standard bearer. CoSIDA's distinguished Academic All-America program began in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America scholar-athlete honors.
