Jim Martin

Jim Martin is in his fifth season as an assistant baseball coach at Southern Connecticut State University. He joined the coaching staff prior to the 2007 season after a solid career at St. John’s University, where he was a four-year starter.

Martin’s handles a variety of responsibilities for the Owls, including - on-field instruction, scouting and recruiting. He also coordinates the program’s marketing materials and assists with special events such as the annual SCSU Baseball Golf Open.

During his junior year, Martin finished among the Top 10 in the Big East Conference in several categories. He finished second in the Big East with 79 hits and also ranked second in the conference with a .391 batting average in conference play.

As a senior, Martin and his teammates earned the regular season title and recorded 41 wins, which was the most in school history at the time. Starting 54 of 59 games, Martin earned both preseason and regular season All-Big East honors, while guiding his team to its second consecutive at-large berth into the NCAA tournament.

Martin, who was a two-time Big East Academic All-Star, graduated from St. John’s in 2005 with a degree in education.

Martin also has previous collegiate experience at St. Anselm, where he coached prior to joining the Owls.
