Nick Lara is in his second season as an assistant coach with the Owls' men's cross country and track and field programs in 2011-12. For his efforts in 2010-11, he was named the USTFCCCA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year.
Lara spent four seasons at Adams State as a member of the cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field squads. He was an 11-time All-American and seven- time NCAA National Champion. Lara also earned National Athlete of the Year honors once and Regional Athlete of the Year laurels twice by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Upon graduation in 2009, Lara joined the coaching staff at Adams State where he assisted in dual NCAA cross country titles for both the men’s and women’s squads. The following year, in 2010, he assisted the cross country team, as well as the indoor men’s track squad, to National Championships.
Lara holds a bachelor’s degree from Adams State College in exercise sports management with a minor in coaching.
