Cairo joined the Owls' coaching staff before the 2023-24 season and is in his third season as assistant coach at Southern Connecticut in 2025-26. 

The 2024-25 team finished the season with an overall record of 19-11. The Owls had a great season in which they started with a seven-game win streak and broke several records in that span. Southern broke the record for most points scored in a single-game (112 points), the largest win margin in program history (73 points) and tied the single-game team assists record of 34 assists. Making history, Delaney Haines scored a career-best of 36 points against Bloomfield, which is the fourth-most points scored in a single-game by an individual in program history. Katie Williamson also made it into the history books as the first player in program history to record 1,000+ points, 100+ blocks and 100+ steals. The Owls made it all the way to the NE10 Semifinals before falling to Bentley. Southern Connecticut received an At-Large Bid to the NCAA East Regional, to make their seventh tournament appearance in program history, where they fell to Saint Anselm. Delaney Haines was named to the All-NE10 Conference First Team, D2CCA All-East Region First Team, WBCA All-America Honorable Mention and CSC Academic All-District Team. Katie Williamson was named to the All-NE10 Conference Second Team, CSC Academic All-District Team and NE10 Academic All-Conference Team. Jillian Martin and Renza Milner were both named to the CSC Academic All-District Team.

The 2023-24 team finished the season with an overall record of 19-13. The Owls made an impressive run in the NE10 Tournament, as they advanced to the NE10 Championship game for the first time since 2012. Southern fell to Bentley in the championship; however, they finished the season with 11 straight games of holding a team under 60 points. Katie Williamson was named to the NE10 All-Conference Second Team.
