Joe Hines was named Associate Director of Athletics/Coordinator of Athletic Facilities in the summer of 2016. A long-standing member of the SCSU community, he served as the interim coordinator of athletic facilities at SCSU in 2015-16 after spending 15 years as the assistant coordinator of athletic facilities.

In this role, Hines oversees all aspects facilities and event management, along with game contracts, scheduling and facility rentals. Previously, he has also served as the Co-Director of the basketball venue for the 1995 Special Olympics World Games. Hines also oversees and coordinates all of the department’s transportation needs.

Previously an advisor to SCSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.), Hines spearheaded efforts for numerous worthy causes, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Hines started his affiliation with the Owls in 1985 while as a student-athlete on the men’s basketball team. He played three years for SCSU (1985-88) and earned a bachelor’s degree in corporate communications.

After graduation, he moved over to nearby Albertus Magnus College in New Haven and served as assistant men’s basketball coach, assistant athletic facilities director and sports information director from 1989-91.

Hines returned to SCSU in 1991 and spent the next nine seasons as assistant men’s basketball coach and athletic facilities assistant. As a coach, he led the Owls to one trip to the NCAA Elite Eight (1997), one Division II Northeast Region semifinal appearance (2000) and two ECAC Tournament berths (1991-92).

He stepped away from coaching in 2000 to serve in a full-time capacity in the area of athletic administration.

Hines previously served as director of intramurals, where he oversaw a broad-based program comprised of 10 leagues and nearly 1,000 participants. Just the third director of intramurals in SCSU history, he replaced the legendary Bob Dikranian.

Hines currently resides in Hamden, Conn.
