Southern Connecticut State University Football head coach Tom Godek announced John Weiss as the Owls’ Offensive Coordinator prior to the start of the 2023 season. Weiss graduated from SCSU in 2015 and returned to his alma mater as the Owls’ offensive line coach in 2020.
Weiss suited up for the Owls from 2011 through 2014, after transferring from Southern Illinois, as a tight end, fullback and spent time on the offensive line and on special teams. Weiss interned with the Owls as an assistant with the team’s wide receivers in 2015. He coached at DePaul Catholic High School in Wayne, N.J. where he helped guide the Spartans to the 2015 New Jersey State Championship before joining the coaching staff at Nebraska.
At Nebraska, Weiss served as an offensive assistant with the Cornhuskers, working primarily with the team’s running game. In 2018, he was named the offensive line assistant at Rutgers and served as the tight ends coach in 2019.
After returning to SCSU in 2020, Weiss also served as the department’s Athletics Academic Support Specialist.
