Nick Guarino, a New Haven, Connecticut native, enters his first season on the coaching staff at Southern Connecticut State University after spending the previous two years as the Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Eastern Connecticut State University.
A 2017 graduate of East Haven High School, Guarino was a three-year starter and served as team captain during the 2016–2017 season. He earned All-State Honorable Mention honors in 2015–2016 after posting an 8–1 record with a 2.00 ERA, and was also named All-Conference that same year.
Guarino started his playing career at Clark University in Worcester, Mass., where he earned his undergraduate degree in Business Management. Over his four-year career, he served as a two-year captain and played under head coach JP Pyne. As a freshman, he logged 49.2 innings, followed by a standout sophomore campaign in which he recorded a 3.05 ERA over 62.0 innings. In the summer of 2020, Guarino helped lead the Nashua Silver Knights to a Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) championship, finishing the season with a 4–0 record, a 1.13 ERA over 24.0 innings, and earning All-FCBL First Team honors. He returned to Nashua in 2021, going 5–2 with a 2.89 ERA in 53.0 innings and being named to the All-FCBL Second Team.
Guarino transferred to Southern Connecticut State University for the 2021–2022 season, where he continued to excel on the mound. He finished the year 9-1 with a 3.91 ERA over 92.0 innings, earning Second Team All-Conference honors and an All-Region selection. A team captain during the 2022–2023 season, Guarino posted a 9–2 record in 76.2 innings pitched, once again earning Second Team All-Conference honors. He ranked 13th nationally in wins, eighth in the country in starts, and tied for third in single-season wins. Guarino went on to complete his M.B.A. in Healthcare Administration at Southern Connecticut State University.
During his two seasons at Eastern Connecticut (2024 and 2025 seasons), Guarino helped lead one of the top pitching staffs in the nation. In 2024, the staff led the country in strikeout-to-walk ratio, ranked second in walks allowed per nine innings, and fourth in WHIP. Under his direction, ECSU produced two All-Region and four All-Conference pitchers. In 2025, the staff ranked 10th nationally in strikeout-to-walk ratio, seventh in K/9, and 13th in total strikeouts, while developing one All-Region and four All-Conference arms. As Recruiting Coordinator, Guarino also helped assemble a 2025 recruiting class ranked in the national top 25 by Perfect Game.
Guarino currently serves as the Manager of the Nashua Silver Knights in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League
