NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Earlier this week, a collection of non-perishable food products was taken to the Connecticut Food Bank warehouse in East Haven. The items were part of the events that took place on Nov. 25 and Nov. 29 in conjunction with the Southern Connecticut State University men's and women's basketball games. Fans were asked to bring non-perishable food or personal care items to the event in order to help those in need during the holiday season. This was the second joint effort between the SCSU athletic department and the Connecticut Food Bank this semester, as the Owls hosted a week-long drive to benefit the organization back in October.
Founded in 1982, Connecticut Food Bank is an affiliate of America's Second Harvest – The Nation's Food Bank Network. It is the largest centralized source of donated, emergency food in Connecticut. Through warehouses in East Haven, Fairfield, and Waterbury, and distribution sites in New London and Stamford, the organization provides food products to more than 650 soup kitchens, shelters, food pantries and daycare programs in Fairfield, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, and Windham counties.
