NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University gymnastics coach Jerry Nelson will serve as a volunteer coach at America's Camp. The event runs from August 19-26 in Hinsdale, Mass. America's Camp is a fun, high quality, one-week, sleep away camp for children who lost a parent or sibling as a result of the attacks on September 11 and for children or siblings of firefighters and law enforcement officers lost in the line of duty at any time.

Nelson will be involved in sessions on Wednesday, August 20, Sunday, August 23 and Monday, August 24.

“I am extremely honored to have this opportunity to coach at America's Camp,” Nelson said. “Having a brother and two cousins who are members of the New York Fire Department, and being on a United flight myself that morning makes this opportunity even more dear to me.”

Under the tutelage of Nelson, the Owls concluded the 2008 season with a 19-7 record and captured the ECAC Championship. It was the ninth ECAC title in 11 years for the club.
