Box Score
LOWELL, Mass. – Four members of the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team reached double-digits on Wednesday night for the second straight game but the Owls dropped a Northeast-10 conference game to UMass-Lowell by the score of 83-73.
Southern is now 1-14 overall on the season and 0-11 in the NE-10. UMass-Lowell remains one of the top teams in the conference with a 13-3 overall record and 8-3 in the Northeast-10.
Junior guard
Derrick Corbett (New Haven, Conn.) and senior guard
Terron Jones (Bridgeport, Conn.) led the Owls in the first half with 10 each. However, Victor Colon had the hot hand for the River Hawks as he dropped 16 points in the first 20 minutes of regulation to help UMass-Lowell head into halftime with a nine point lead.
The deficit proved too much for the Owls to make a strong comeback despite some great plays on both sides of the ball. Southern did not have an answer for the River Hawks star player Colon as he dropped a game-high 26 points.
Corbett led the Owls with 19 points and dropped three from behind-the-arc. Joining Corbett in double-digits was Jones and senior forward
Preston Bell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 14 each and senior guard
Justin Gardenhire (Rosedale, N.Y.) who added 12. Gardenhire also shared a team-high seven boards with junior center
John Mazzarella (Wallingford, Conn.).
The Owls return to Moore Field House on Saturday afternoon for a Northeast-10 game against Merrimack. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
