NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's swimming and diving team welcomed Central Connecticut and Sacred Heart to the Hutchinson Natatorium on Sunday afternoon. The Owls defeated Sacred Heart by the final score of 88-50, but came up short to CCSU, 77-63.
Senior
Emily Sundel (West Hartford, Conn.) collected the first victory of the afternoon in the 2000-yard freestyle. She completed the event in 22:07.88.
Freshman
Amanda Thomas (Oakville, Conn.) granted the Owls their second victory of the competition in the fourth event. She took first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.40.
Sophomore Jennifer O'Neil (Stratford, Conn.) captured two more first place finishes for the squad. She swam the 50-yard breaststroke in 31.73 and the 400-yard breaststroke in 5:13.67.
Thomas followed O'Neil with victories in the 400-yard backstroke (4:33.92) and the 800-yard IM (9:33.00) and a quartet of swimmers captured the gold in the 800-yard freestyle relay event.
Sophomore
Amanda Burden (Orange, Conn.) closed out the competition with triumphs in the one-meter and three-meter diving events. She posted scores of 204.60 and 224.00 respectively.
The Owls return to action on Nov. 7 with an away meet at the College of New Jersey.
