BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's swimming and diving team traveled to Brookville, N.Y. for a meet against C.W. Post on Saturday afternoon at the Pratt Recreational Center. Behind several strong individual showings, the Owls defeated the Pioneers by the final score of 108-90 for their third win of the season.
The Owls wasted very little time finding the scoreboard in the meet. Senior
Emily Sundel (West Hartford, Conn.) granted Southern their first points with a first place showing in the 1000-yard freestyle. She completed the event in 11:05.01, just 10 seconds ahead of fellow teammate,
Nicole Huerta (Santo Domingo, D.R.).
SCSU continued its winning ways in the next three events. Senior
Cody Hall (Parker, Colo.) won the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.32), Jennifer O'Neil (Stratford, Conn.) snatched the 50-yard freestyle (25.27) and freshman
Amanda Thomas (Oakville, Conn.) captured the 400-yard IM (4:33.18).
O'Neil then followed with first-place performances in the 100-yard freestyle (55.42) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.89), while Thomas and Hall each finished ahead of the field in the 100-yard backstroke (58.82) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.32) events.
The Owls return to action on Nov. 21 with the USMMA Invitational in Kings Point, N.Y. The meet kicks off at 11 a.m.
