Football Squad Assists At Wallingford Ulbrich Boys and Girls Club ‘Sports Night’ Event

Daniel Allen and Nathan Tyler provided instruction at Monday's 'Sports Night' event.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Student-athletes from the Southern Connecticut State University football team took part in the Ulbrich Boys and Girls Club weekly 'Sports Night' Event on Monday night in Wallingford. For the second straight week, the Owls' student-athletes conducted an array of fundamental drills before coordinating an intrasquad game of two-hand touch to wrap up the evening.

Each Monday night, the club hosts a sporting-themed event. The highlighted sport for the month of December is football. Previously, members of the men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball teams assist at the Ulbrich Boys and Girls Club this semester.

This program, which will conclude for the fall semester next Monday, is just one example of many community outreach events that SCSU student-athletes will take part in as part of the Tim Greer Insurance Agency Community Service Cup.

Initiated in September, 2008, the 'Community Service Cup' program provides a competitive format that allows student-athletes to gain an enriched experience through engagement with the on-campus and local communities by supporting ventures of traditional citizens, campus community members and peer students and student-athletes. SCSU student-athletes volunteered nearly 2,000 hours of their time to numerous outreach efforts, both on-campus and in Greater New Haven, during the 2008-09 academic year.
