SCSU Athletic Department To Team Up With Coca-Cola For Series Of February Events Promoting Breast Cancer Awareness

The Southern Connecticut State University athletic department and Coca-Cola are teaming up for a series of February events promoting breast cancer awareness in conjunction with home gymnastics and women’s basketball contests during the month.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University athletic department and Coca-Cola are teaming up for a series of February events promoting breast cancer awareness in conjunction with home gymnastics and women's basketball contests during the month. Special pink-themed beverages will be distributed to fans attending the Owls' February 7 gymnastics meet, as well as the women's basketball games on February 14 and February 18.

The women's basketball contests are part of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association 'Pink Zone' initiative, which promotes heightened awareness for breast cancer within the sport of women's basketball, on college campuses and in the general community.

The women's basketball team will once again wear pink uniforms this season – and remain as one of just a handful of programs across the country to do so. Game time for Owls' Feb. 14 contest against Stonehill is 1:30 p.m., while the Feb. 18 tilt against Bentley is a 5:30 p.m. start.

The gymnastics team will feature several pink accents as part of their traditional attire for their 1 p.m. meet against SUNY-Brockport, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Rhode Island College.

Fans are encouraged to wear pink to all of those contests at Moore Fieldhouse, and will also receive additional promotional giveaways.

These events are another in a continued partnership between the SCSU Athletic Department and Coca-Cola. During the course of the 2008-09 academic year, Coca-Cola has already distributed complimentary products and giveaways at Owls' football, men's and women's soccer, field hockey and men's and women's basketball contests.
