Box Score vs. Georgian Court
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team is an impressive 13-0 after taking both matches at Pelz Gym on Saturday afternoon. The Owls won the first match by forfeit against Mercy and in their second match, they defeated Georgian Court 3-1. They were lead by junior
Broghan Miller (West Hartford, Conn.) with a game-high 16 kills and four service aces.
Southern has improved to 13-0 overall and 2-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Mercy is now 0-7 overall and Georgian Court is 6-7.
The Owls 13th consecutive win did not come easy. They were forced to come from behind after falling short in set one, 25-22.
They would not lose their composure however, as they retaliated to take the next three sets by the scores of 25-13, 25-23 and 25-15.
Leading the offense was Miller, seniors
Marcia Hollingsworth (Alexandria, Va.) and
Jenna Tammel (Spring Valley, Minn.) and freshman
Kimberly Lachowicz (Mansfield, Texas).
Hollingsworth was second on the team with 12 kills and Tammel registered a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs. Lachowicz set up the offense with a game-high 38 assists.
Defensively, freshman
Vanessa Sullivan (Paramus, N.J.) recorded a game-high 17 digs and Hollingsworth and Lachowicz tallied two blocks each
The Owls head to Adelphi for the team's next contest on Wednesday, September 23. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
