THE WEEK AHEAD
The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team will travel to Pleasantville, N.Y. on Nov. 23 to face the Setters of Pace. The Owls will then host the Yellow Jackets of American International College at Moore Field House on Nov. 28 at 1:30 p.m.
STEPPING UP
Shelley Pierson has become a reliable component to the Owls offense this season. In the win over LeMoyne on Wednesday, she posted her second double-double scoring 11 points and hauling in 10 boards.
IMMEDIATE IMPACT
Freshman
Moni Smith-Ocran has marked her territory as she scored seven points in the season opener against Queens on Nov. 12 while bringing in seven rebounds. On Nov. 13, in the victory over Bridgeport, she completed her first double-double in her colligate career, scoring 12 points and hauling in 13 rebounds. She captured Rookie of the Week in the first Northeast-10 Conference weekly reports for her effort against Queens and Bridgeport. Junior
Sylvonya Moore has become an important factor on the floor scoring double digit points in each game. Against Queens she registered 13 points and 14 rebounds, and then against Bridgeport she led all scorers with 18 points.
CRUSHING THE COMPETITORS
As the Owls completed their first weekend of the season, Southern was in control. In neither game did they let their opponent take the lead, nor be within 10 points at halftime. Senior
Shelley Pierson controlled the court totaling 30 points and 18 rebounds. On the weekend, the Owls forced 45 turnovers and scored 54 points as a result.
WINNING IN THE CLASSROOM
Out of the 34 student-athletes from Southern Connecticut awarded the Academic Achievement Award, senior
Logan Lentz and junior
Alex Fiola were among those chosen representing the women's basketball team.
BACK TO BACK HONORS
Senior guard
Logan Lentz was named to Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic Team honors for the second straight year. As an exercise science major, she has a 3.95 cumulated grade point average.
TOP OF THE LEAGUE
At the end of the 2009-10 season,
Logan Lentz ranked among the top in the Northeast-10 Conference. She was 4th in minutes played per game (36.29), 5th in assist/turnover ratio (1.49), 10th in 3-point percentage (.359) and 12th in assists (106). Senior
Shelley Pierson is also in the midst of the rankings finishing 12th in field goal percentage (.467) and offensive rebounds (62), as well as 14th in blocked shots (21).
RECORD IN SEASON-OPENERS
Tough to beat in season opening games, the Owls have an overall record of 26-10.

Southern Connecticut was picked 12th in the league's preseason poll.
MARKING HER TERRITORY
Head coach Meghan Brown is entering her fourth year as head coach for the Owls this season. She has an overall record of 38-49 (.437). Brown is assisted by Tammy Millsaps for the third time, along with Janay Prim in her first season with the Owls.
CHECKING IN
The Owls will be on the road for two games as they travel to Garden City, N.Y. on Dec. 1 to play Adelphi. They will then head to upstate N.Y. to face Saint Rose on Dec. 4.
