Thomas Posts Three First-Place Marks, Leads Owls At Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Sophomore Amanda Thomas (Oakville, Conn.) recorded first place finishes in the 100 backstroke (59.73), 200 fly (2:07.89) and the 400 individual medley (4:29.51) to lead the Southern Connecticut State University women's swimming and diving team in its meet at Marist on Saturday. Senior Jennifer O'Neil (Stratford, Conn.) also came in first in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.89) and 200 breaststroke (2:26.41) for the Owls, who had six first-place marks in all on the day. Marist won the meet by a score of 166-129.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Nicole Huerta (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic), Meghan Fay (Branford, Conn.), Nicole Caron (Marlborough, Mass.) and Jaclyn Renzoni (Seymour, Conn.) also won their event with a time of 1:48.09. 

The 200 medley relay group of Thomas, O'Neil, Hannah Olson (Torrington, Conn.) and Anna Pleban (Seymour, Conn.) placed second in that event. O'Neil also placed second in the 50 freestyle, while Pleban was second in the 100 freestyle.

Amanda Burden (Orange, Conn.) finished second in three-meter diving. Olson was second in the 400 IM. The 200 freestyle relay team of Sarah Thomas (Naugatuck, Conn.),# Kayla Wainwright# (Norwich, Conn.),Kristen Schmid (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and Jessica Rickel (Seymour, Conn.) also placed second.

The Owls are back in action tomorrow when they host Connecticut College at noon.
