Women's Swimming and Diving Edged By Connecticut College

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - For the second day in a row, sophomore Amanda Thomas (Oakville, Conn.) posted three individual first place finishes - winning the 200 backstroke (2:08.02), 100 fly (58.14) and 200 individual medley (2:08.75) - while also swimming a leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay squad to pace the Southern Connecticut State University women's swimming and diving team on Sunday against Connecticut College. The visiting Camels edged the host Owls by just seven points, 151-144.

Thomas teamed with Jennifer O'Neil (Stratford, Conn.), Anna Pleban (Torrington, Conn.) and Nicole Huerta (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) to post a time of 4:02.84 in the 400 freestyle relay.

O'Neil also added first place showings in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.47) and 200 breaststroke (2:28.10). She was also third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.53.

Junior Amanda Burden (Orange, Conn.) contributed a pair of first place marks in one and three-meter diving. The Owls actually had the top three marks in both events. Burden (246.45) was followed by Emily Rapuano (Seymour, Conn.) and Laura Richard (Trumbull, Conn.) on the three-meter board. Lauren Sasso (Orange, Conn.) and Rapuano followed Burden on the one-meter board.

Meghan Fay (Branford, Conn.) was second in the 1000 freestyle (11:04.22) and third in the 500 freestyle (5:24.15)

Huerta also placed second in the 500 freestyle (5:22.76).

The Owls also received third place marks from Nicole Caron (Marlborough, Mass.) in the 100 backstroke (1:04.32), Jessica Rickel (Seymour, Conn.) in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.5), Hannah Olson (Seymour, Conn.) in the 200 fly (2:20.24) and Pleban in the 100 freestyle (55.65). The 200 freestyle relay team of Jaclyn Renzoni (Naugatuck, Conn.), Fay, Kristen Schmid (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and Sarah Thompson (Davenport, Iowa) was also third in 1:44.53.

The Owls are back in action on Friday for a meet at West Chester.
