Balanced Attack Leads Owls Over Queens On Senior Day

The Owls honored their seniors prior to Tuesday's win over Queens.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Seven different individuals recorded victories, along with the 200 medley relay team, to lead the Southern Connecticut State University women's swimming and diving team to a 134-71 win over Queens College on Tuesday afternoon at Hutchinson Natatorium. It was the final tuneup for the Owls before next weekend's Northeast-10 Conference Championships.

The 200 medley relay quartet of Kerry Sullivan (Acton, Mass.), Christine Katrenya (Oxford, Conn.), Jessica Rickel (Seymour, Conn.) and Nicole Caron (Marlborough, Mass.) claimed their event in a time of 1:59.03. 

Amber Bjerke (Seymour, Conn.) and Jaclyn Renzoni (Naugatuck, Conn.) went one-two in the 1,000 freestyle with times of 11:30.63 and 11:37.94, respectively.

The Owls had the top four finishers in the 200 freestyle, led by Rhiannon Urciuoli (Seymour, Conn.), who touched the wall in 2:04.45.

SCSU also went one through four in the 50 freestyle, with Jennifer O'Neil (Stratford, Conn.) capturing first place in 25.09. The same trend held true in the 200 IM, with Hannah Olsen (Torrington, Conn.) winning in 2:20.76.

Amanda Burden (Orange, Conn.) took first place in three-meter diving with a score of 266.47.

Nicole Huerta (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) paced a top-four Owls' showing in the 100 freestyle, winning with a time of 56.79.

Caron placed first in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:17.25.

The Owls are back in action on Feb. 4 for the NE-10 Championships at Moore Field House.
