Swimming and Diving Results
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's swimming and diving team celebrated senior day honoring five seniors with a win against Queens on Friday afternoon, 131-72.
The five seniors included
Amanda Thomas (Oakville, Conn.),
Ashley Thomas (Oakville, Conn.),
Kristen Schmid (Lindenhurst, N.Y.),
Nicole Caron (Marlboro, Mass.) and
Meghan Fay (Branford, Conn.).
Junior
Elizabeth Hess (Iowa City, Iowa) led the way for the Owls taking two firsts in the 200 yard IM finishing in 2:20.19 and the 100 yard freestyle in 57.36. The Owls finished one through four in the 200 IM with Hess taking first,
Courtney Silva (Burnsville, Minn.) finishing second,
Amanda Joy (Smithfield, Maine) taking third and
Caitlyn Salter (Burlington, Conn.) finishing fourth.
The 200 yard freestyle event was also dominated by the Owls as they finished one through four once again. Hess took first, Fay finished second,
Rachel Smolensky (Norwalk, Conn.) took third and
Hannah Olson (Torrington, Conn.) finished fourth.
Olson also took home a first-place mark in the win, finishing the 200 yard freestyle event in 2:04.20. Additionally, Christina Katrenya (Oxford, Conn.) Smolensky and Schmid followed her up with second, third and fourth.
Rhiannon Urciuoli (Seymour, Conn.) finished the day with a first-place mark, taking the first individual event of the day, the 1650 yard freestyle event, in 19:15.14. Junior
Anna Pleban (Seymour, Conn.) was also an Owl with a first-place mark taking the 500 yard freestyle event in 5:18.44.
Senior
Amanda Thomas also took home a first-place finish in her last home meet as an Owl. She finished the 200 yard backstroke event in 2:06.28.
The Owls 200 medley relay teams also took first and second in the event. Finishing with a time of 1:56.44 was the team of Smolensky, Katrenya, Hess and Schmid and right behind them was the relay group of Caron, Pleban, Silva and Salter who finished the event in 1:56.50.
One the three-meter board,
Jessica Renzo (Westfield, Mass.) took home top honors with a score of 234.97 and the one-meter dive event was taken by
Ashley Thomas who finished with a score of 247.50.
The Owls will be back in action Sunday at 12:30 when they travel to Le Moyne for a dual meet.
