SCSU Student-Athletes, Coaches and Staff Participate In 'Jail N Bail' To Benefit Special Olympics of Connecticut

Members of the men's swimming and diving team were jailed as part of the 'Jail N Bail' event to benefit Connecticut Special Olympics.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Student-athletes, coaches and staff from the Southern Connecticut State University athletic department took part in the Annual Jail N Bail event on Tuesday. Jail N Bail is a campus-wide effort spearheaded by the SCSU Police Department and Beta Mu Sigma Fraternity. Athletic department representatives served as judges or were 'jailed' before posting 'bail' that went to the fundraising cause. In addition, head coaches Rich Cavanaugh and Tim Quill volunteered their services for the 'dunk tank' as part of the festivities.

This program is just one example of many community outreach events that SCSU student-athletes will take part in as part of the Tim Greer Insurance Agency Community Service Cup.

Initiated in September, 2008, the 'Community Service Cup' program provides a competitive format that allows student-athletes to gain an enriched experience through engagement with the on-campus and local communities by supporting ventures of traditional citizens, campus community members and peer students and student-athletes. SCSU student-athletes have volunteered more than 2,500 hours of their time to numerous outreach efforts, both on-campus and in Greater New Haven, during the 2012-13 academic year.
