Lauren McVey (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and
Jade Black (Hudson, Ohio) of the Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team combined for 23 kills and 33 digs in a 3-0 win over Mercy College to claim their second victory of the day. McVey had a team-high 21 kills and 12 kills, while Black amassed 12 digs with 11 kills during the match.
Olivia Lathrop (Farmington, Conn.) had the hot hand today with a 0.500 hitting percentage with four kills and two block assists.
Nicole Hauser (Stevens Port, Wis.) and
Taylor Carlson (Centennial, Colo.) shared the offensive play calling duties with 17 and 13 assists, respectively.
Madison Featherston (Lakewood, Colo.) and
Natasha Carlbert (Southington, Conn.) contributed four digs each off the bench.
The Owls came off the break between their two matches today on-fire. Southern Connecticut rolled the first set against Mercy with a 18-7 run to win the first set 25-12. Mercy came charging back early in the second set poised to make quick work of the second before the Owls rattled off eight unanswered points from the service hand of McVey. The Owls made short work of the second set by a score of 25-16. In the third, the Owls looked determined to complete the sweep going on an 11-1 run to start the third set. The Owls closed out the third set by a score of 25-16 to maintain a perfect record during the past week.
The Owls are currently 5-1 on the season. They improve their win streak to four straight matches.
The Owls will play a second match later on today at 3 p.m. against Mercy College.
