QUEENS, N.Y. -
Christina Lavery (West Haven, Conn.) and
Hannah Olson (Torrington, Conn.) were victorious in two events for the Southern Connecticut State University women's swimming and diving team in its dual meet at Queens College on Friday afternoon. The Owls won by a team score of 108-64.
Lavery touched the wall first in the 200 yard butterfly in 2:21.92; while Olson, one of the Owls' co-captains, won the 200 yard breaststroke with a finishing time of 2:45.94.
Both swimmers were on the winning 400 yard medley relay team. The quartent, made up of Lavery, Olson,
Amber Bjerke (Seymour, Conn.) and
Courtney Silva (Burnsville, Minn.) completed the race in 4:17.31.
Two Owls tied for the top spot in the 200 yard freestyle. Both
Rachel Smolensky (Norwalk, Conn.) and
Elizabeth Hess (Iowa City, Iowa) each finished with a time of 2:06.63.
Three seniors each touched the wall first in their respective events for SCSU.
Anna Pleban (Seymour, Conn.) won the 400 yard IM (4:45.89),
Christine Katrenya (Oxford, Conn.) took the 100 yard freestyle (:56.81) and
Rhiannon Urciuoli (Seymour, Conn.) was victorious in the 1650 yard freestyle (19:04.13).
Katherine Krajcik (Stratford, Conn.) placed first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:27.86.
The Owls compete next on Saturday afternoon versus Le Moyne. The dual meet will begin at 12:30p.m. at SCSU.
