Volz Busy With Numerous Outreach Efforts This Summer

Christine Volz had a busy summer volunteering in the United States, Kenya and Cuba.
Sophomore Christine Volz (Cincinnati, Ohio) of the Southern Connecticut State University gymnastics team had a busy summer volunteering at home in Ohio and around the globe. Volz took part in several community service activities this summer, with the two most notable being mission trips to Kenya and Cuba. She was in Kenya from July 9-23 and worked in orphanages, helped with health assessments and assisted some elderly in the region. Volz then visited Cuba from August 4-11 and visited residents and completed painting projects. In between her travels abroad, Volz spent a week volunteering at a local Bible school in her native Ohio.

These events are just a few examples of the many community outreach events that SCSU student-athletes will take part in as part of the Tim Greer Insurance Agency Community Service Cup.

Initiated in September, 2008, the 'Community Service Cup' program provides a competitive format that allows student-athletes to gain an enriched experience through engagement with the on-campus and local communities by supporting ventures of traditional citizens, campus community members and peer students and student-athletes. SCSU student-athletes volunteered more than 4,000 hours of their time to numerous outreach efforts, both on-campus and in Greater New Haven, during the 2013-14 academic year.
