Click here to view complete resultsNEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State women's swimming and diving team held its annual senior day on Sunday afternoon against Connecticut College. The team's two seniors, Courtney Silva (Burnville, Minn.) and Rachel Smolensky (Norwalk, Conn.) were honored with a ceremony prior to the start of the meet, which concluded with a presentation on Hutchinson Natatorium's new video board. The Owls fell 183-75 in the contest, which also featured Merrimack College.Smolensky highlighted her day with a first place finish in the 200 yard backstroke, finishing the event in 2:12.71.
Silva turned in a strong day by finishing second in all four of her events. She turned in a time of 2:13.61 in the 200 yard butterfly, 2:33.50 in the 200 yard breaststroke, and finished the 200 yard IM in 2:18.96.
Silva was also part of the second place, 400 yard medley relay team, along with freshman
Aubrey Bailey (El Cajon, Calif.), freshman
Lilly Martin (Bristol, Conn.) and sophomore
Katherine Krajcik (Stratford, Conn.), who combined to finish with a time of 4:09.01.
Sophomore
Katherine Crochet (Waterbury, Conn.) picked up an individual victory with a 53.86-second performance in the 100 yard freestyle. Krajcik placed fourth in the event by finishing in 55.86 seconds.
Bailey later turned in a second place finish in the 100 yard butterfly, touching in 1:01.01.
Freshman
Sydney Fromkin (Sharon, Mass.) (11:06.86) and freshman
Kayla Laydon (North Haven, Conn.) (11:16.31) each picked up team points by finishing second and third, respectively, in the 1,000 yard freestyle. Fromkin later turned in a fourth place finish of 5:32.32 in the 500 yard freestyle.
Crochet turned in a strong second place showing in the 200 yard freestyle, finishing in 1:59.58.
Freshman
Georgienna Driver (West Haven, Conn.)) used a time of 1:12.87 to place third in the 100 yard backstroke.
In the 100 yard breaststroke, junior
Christina Lavery (West Haven, Conn.) and sophomore
Molly Soufrine (Branford, Conn.) earned points with third (1:12.59) and fourth place (1:17.05) finishes, respectively.
Krajcik picked up three team points in the 50 yard freestyle with a third place time of 25.47 seconds. Lavery also contributed two team points with a fourth place time of 26.62 seconds.
The final women's event of the day was the 200 yard freestyle relay, which saw Crochet, Lavery, Krajcik and Fromkin take second place, combining for a time of 1:43.17.
The Owls next meet will be on Friday, Jan. 16 at 4 p.m. when they travel to take on Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y.
