Click here to view complete resultsSYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Southern Connecticut State women's swimming and diving team topped Le Moyne in a road meet on Saturday by a score of 140-83 in the team's final meet prior to the Northeast-10 Championships.
The team began the day on the right foot with a first place finish in the 200 yard medley relay. Senior
Rachel Smolensky (Norwalk, Conn.), senior
Courtney Silva (Burnsville, Minn.), freshman
Aubrey Bailey (El Cajon, Calif.) and junior
Christina Lavery (West Haven, Conn.) combined on the top time of 1:53.45.
Freshman
Kayla Laydon (North Haven, Conn.) followed that up with a victory in the 1,000 yard freestyle, earning nine team points for her 11:19.18 performance.
Sophomore
Katherine Crochet Waterbury, Conn.) and freshman
Sydney Fromkin (Sharon, Mass.) then took the top two places in the 200 yard freestyle. Crochet won the event with a time of 2:01.54, coming in just ahead of Fromkin, who finished in 2:02.84.
Sophomore
Katherine Krajcik (Stratford, Conn.) also took home the top spot in the 50 yard freestyle, winning the sprint in the 25.77 seconds. Sophomore
Katelyn Ray (Oxford, Conn.) grabbed three team points for her third place finish of 26.87 seconds.
Bailey and Silva turned in strong showings for the Owls in the 100 yard butterfly, with Bailey finishing on top with a time of 1:00.28, and Silva taking second in 1:02.18.
A pair of Owls also grabbed the top two spots in the 100 yard freestyle, as Crochet picked up her second win of the day, finishing in 54.38 seconds. Krajcik came in right behind her, touching in second at 57.91 seconds.
Silva picked up her second win of the day in the 100 yard breaststroke with a 1:11.66 finish. Lavery came in right behind her with a second place time of 1:13.26.
Fromkin (1st/5:24.18) and Laydon (2nd/5:34.49) came in one-two in the 500 yard freestyle.
Smolensky (2nd/1:02.18), Bailey (3rd/1:02.75) and Martin (4th/1:08.70) had strong showings in the 100 yard backstroke.
In the 200 yard IM, Lavery came in second with a time of 2:17.81, while freshman
Lilly Martin (Bristol, Conn.) came in third with a time of 2:18.67.
The day for the women's team concluded by taking the top two spots in the 800 yard freestyle relay. The team of Krajcik, Fromkin, Martina and Crochet came in first, combining for a 8:26.52 time. Coming in right behind them, was another Owls' team of Ray, freshman
Georgienna Driver (West Haven, Conn.), Laydon and sophomore
Molly Soufrine (Branford, Conn.). The team's second place finish of 8:47.02 earned the team four points.
With the regular season now in the books, the Owls will return to action when they host the Northeast-10 Championships at Hutchinson Natatorium from February 5-8. Action on Thursday, Feb. 5 begins at 5 p.m.
