NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State University athletic department will host a "Hudson Strong" event in conjunction with its basketball doubleheader against the University of New Haven on Wednesday, November 30. The event is in support of Hudson Solder, a 1-year old who was diagnosed with tumors in both kidneys in October, 2015. Hudson is the son of Lexi (Allen) Solder, a member of the Owls' 2007 NCAA Championship women's basketball squad, and Nate Solder, a Super Bowl winning offensive lineman for the New England Patriots.
Members of the Solder family will be on site for the game, and among the giveaways during the course of the evening are 4 tickets for the Patriots game against the New York Jets later this season.
About Hudson Solder:
Hudson was diagnosed with tumors in both of his kidneys on October 19, 2015, when he was just three months old. Hudson spent the first week in Boston Children's Hospital, had surgery to insert a port in his chest and started chemo.
Since Hudson was diagnosed, he has had 24 chemo treatments (at The Jimmy Fund Clinic in Boston), two surgeries, and has been put under anesthesia 12 times.
Today, Hudson is 16 months old. His tumors have shrunk significantly but are still considered inoperable. He is currently taking a break from his chemo treatments to give his little body some much needed time to heal. Hudson has a long road to full health but his doctors are very hopeful he will get there someday.
Hudson was the youngest, smallest patient at Boston Children's hospital to ever have a port placed in his chest for chemo. It is estimated that he is about one of 3-5 children with his condition, at his age, in the country.
