Leanna Jadus (Long Beach, Calif.), the Southern Connecticut State University women's volleyball team defeated Assumption College, 3-1, on Tuesday evening in its Northeast-10 Conference opener at Pelz Gymnasium.
BALANCED ATTACK:
Southern Connecticut came out firing on all cylinders in set one as the Owls registered a .317 hitting percentage to secure the 1-0 lead heading into set two.
OWLS SOAR OVER GREYHOUNDS:
Despite a .091 hitting percentage, the Owls took set two from the Greyhounds, 25-22, after opening the frame with an 11-4 run, forcing the visitors to use a timeout.
ASSUMPTION SHOCKS SCSU:
With the score tied at 19-19, Assumption closed out the frame with a 6-4 run to send the match into a fourth set, 25-23.
SCSU WINS FOURTH SET:
Assumption controlled the majority of set four until a service error by the Greyhounds tied the game at 22-22 before the hosts rallied off a 3-1 run to secure the win.
STAT BREAKDOWN:
- Jadus recorded her fourth double-double of the season as the outside hitter tied her career-high 20 kills, 13 digs, a service ace and a block assists.
- Jurgens collected her first double-double after collecting 10 kills, 16 digs, two blocks assists and an assist.
- Junior
Alexandra Nimz (Littleton, Colo.) recorded an impressive night as she tied former Owl Kimberly Lachowicz in the single-game assist record with 56. That mark is also a new career-high for the setter from Colorado.
- Juniors
Nicole Hauser (Stevens Point, Wisc.) and
Sean Taylor (Kent, Wash.) each chimed in with 12 kills, respectively.
- Freshman
Jenixza Febles (Meriden, Conn.) registered three of the Owls' four service aces in the win.
