NEW HAVEN, Conn. -
Julia Schaff (Cheshire, Conn.) tallied her first career defensive save as the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team fell to No. 4 nationally ranked Pace, 3-1 this evening at Jess Dow Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Pace opened the scoring at 6:48 after Paige Predmore fed the ball to Katrina Mikitish off the corner, who tucked it in short side.
- The Setters Halley Rose extended Pace's lead to two after she deflected in a Mikitish shot from the top of the circle at 13:17. Pace added a third goal off another corner to take a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
- Pace heightened their offense in the second half as they tallied 24 of their eventual 40 shots, but they couldn't find the back of the net as junior goalie Brianna Craft (Hamden, Conn.) gobbled up all the Setters shots. Schaff's defensive save came at 59:46 to fend off the nationally ranked Setters late in the game.
- Sophomore Jessica Maier (Enfield, Conn.) found the back of the net for the Owls after senior Natasha Prukalski (Danbury, Conn.) ripped a shot from the top of the circle and Maier found the ball on her reverse side for her first goal of the year.
- Craft went on to make 23 saves in the game.
UP NEXT: Southern is set to host No. 3 nationally Merrimack College this Saturday at 11 a.m. at Jess Dow Field. The Owls are hosting the game in honor of Down Syndrome Awareness Month.
