Football Dominates American International For 48-21 Homecoming Win

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut State University football rolled to a 48-21 Northeast 10 Conference win against American International College in front of over 3,000 spectators for its annual Homecoming Game at Jess Dow Field. With the win, the Owls improve to 4-3 overall and 3-3 in the NE10 while AIC drops to 0-6 for the season.

Eli Parks (Bristol, Conn.) was dominant once-again, totaling a season-high 161 yards on 17 carries and four touchdowns, including a season-best 58-yard run late in the first quarter to put the Owls ahead for good. Parks also added a 30-yard touchdown run. Matt Sanzaro (Wethersfield, Conn.) had another strong day in his second-straight start back from injury as he connected on 14-of-20 passing attempts for a season-high 205 yards and two touchdowns. Sanzaro also rambled for 43 yards on seven carries to give him 248 all-purpose yards for the afternoon. Freshman Jordan Knight (Windsor, Conn.) scored his first career touchdown while Earl Myers (Uniondale, N.Y.) and Izaiah Sanders (Stamford, Conn.) also had touchdown receptions, with Sanders' tally also standing as the first of his career. 

Defensively, Jarred Bennett-Moorer (Bronx, N.Y.) led Southern with six tackles including 3 1/2 sacks for the day, as well as three quarterback hurries. Kyle Armour (Uniondale, N.Y.) and Kaylyn Gray (Washington, D.C.) both had interceptions for the Owls.

NOTES
  • Saturday's performance gives Parks his fifth game of the season with over 120 yards. He's also racked up 140-or-more in three of his last four games. For the year, he's totaled 867 yards and 10 touchdowns.
  • Parks' 10 touchdowns this season make him the first Owls running back since Robert Thomas in 2015 to hit double-digit touchdown totals.
  • Parks now has 22 touchdowns for his career, while Saturday's performance gives him a career-best 10 for the season, passing his eight from last season.
  • Southern Connecticut was 5-for-5 in the red zone, with five touchdowns, including three on the ground and two in the air. The Owls are now 23-for-29 for the year in the red zone.
  • Hunter Fluegel (New Bedford, Mass.) had three receptions for a season-high 91 yards in the air.

The Owls will hit the road on Saturday, Oct. 27 when they head to Pleasantville, N.Y. to take on Pace at 1 p.m.

10:30, 1st (SCSU 7, AIC 0): Eli Parks scored his first touchdown of the day on a three-yard run. 
1:39, 1st (AIC 7, SCSU 7): Prince Olubakinda connected with Joshua Simon on a 23-yard touchdown pass to tie at 7-7. 
00:58, 1st (SCSU 14, AIC 7): Parks took a hand-off on the second play of the drive to the house for a season-best 58-yard touchdown.
10:17, 2nd (SCSU 21, AIC 7): Matt Sanzaro found Earl Myers for Myers' first of the season. 
4:06, 2nd (SCSU 28, AIC 7): Parks' second big touchdown run of the day came on a 30-yard scamper that gave SCSU a 21-point lead. 
2:11, 2nd (AIC 14, SCSU 28): Olubakinda scored from a yard out on the QB keeper to cut Southern's lead in half. 
00:14, 2nd (SCSU 34, AIC 14): The Owls got on the board just before the half when Sanzaro hooked up with the Sanders for the freshman's first career score.
8:37, 3rd (SCSU 41, AIC 14): Parks' seven-yard run capped off a masterful 10-play, 59-yard clock-eating drive for his fourth touchdown of the afternoon.
13:23, 4th (SCSU 48, AIC 14): Jordan Knight scored his first career touchdown on a six-yard run. 
00:45, 4th (AIC 21, SCSU 48): Lennox Green caught a beautiful 22-yard pass from Olubakinda for AIC's lone points in the second half.
