Owls Drop 3-2 Decision to Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to Saint Anselm at Melucci Field this afternoon.

RECORDS: So. Connecticut (9-8, 6-7 NE10) | Saint Anselm (1-11-3, 1-9-3 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Owls got on the board first at the 13:59 mark as Francisco Roldan Martin (Malaga, Spain) scored a goal off a error by the Hawks defense to take the lead.
  • Saint Anselm responded two minutes later to tie the game at 1-1.
  • Second half adjustments by the Hawks worked wonders as they scored two quick goals in the first five minutes to start the second half.
  • The Owls saw themselves down a man as a red card was issued in the 57th minute, however the Owls offense kept pushing and Dexter Tenn (South Windsor, Conn.) was able to slot one in the back of the net off a pass from Kevin Van der Pol (Drammen, Buskerud, Norway). The Owls were unable to nab another goal as the Hawks claimed the 3-2 win.

POSTSEASON
Despite the Owls defeat, with Stonehill tying Franklin Pierce 1-1 the Owls have clinched a berth in the NE10 Championship Tournament. Right now the Owls are in seventh place with 18 points, however if AIC wins their game against Adelphi, that would push Southern back to the #8 seed.
