Football Dealt 31-14 Loss At Merrimack In Season Finale

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - The Southern Connecticut State University football team lost to Merrimack, 31-14, in a Northeast 10 Conference match-up in North Andover, Mass. With the loss, SCSU falls to 4-6 overall and 3-6 in the NE10 while Merrimack improves to 5-5 overall and 5-4 in league play.

Eli Parks (Bristol, Conn.) amassed 158 all-purpose yards with a pair of touchdowns in the loss. The NE10's leading rusher totaled 103 yards on 26 carries with one rushing touchdown and also caught four passes for 55 yards including a 16-yard touchdown reception. Owls quarterback Matt Sapere (Windsor, Conn.) was 20-for-40 for 221 yards with one touchdown pass. Senior Earl Myers (Bronx, N.Y.) had 10 receptions for 76 yards. Defensively Jhaaron Wallace (Hartford, Conn.) totaled eight tackles.

  • Merrimack 7, SCSU 0 (8:47, 1st): Christian Carter completed a 25-yard pass to Johnny Rosario to put the Warriors on the board first.
  • Merrimack 14, SCSU 0 (14:24, 2nd): Carter rushed for his first touchdown of the half on a two-yard run to put Merrimack on top by two touchdowns.
  • Merrimack 21, SCSU 0 (4:46, 2nd): Carter evaded the Owls' rush and weaved his way through traffic for a 12-yard touchdown run.
  • Merrimack 28, SCSU 0 (12:33, 3rd): Carter connected with Corey Demers for a 18-yard touchdown reception.
  • SCSU 6, Merrimack 28 (4:53, 3rd): After Matt Sapere's touchdown pass to Tom Lasaracina was waived off for a penalty, Sapere connected with Eli Parks on a 16-yard touchdown reception to put the Owls on the board late in the third quarter.
  • SCSU 14, Merrimack 28: Parks scored from a yard out, before Sapere kept the ball for the 2-point conversion.
  • Merrimack 31, SCSU 14 (5:45, 4th): Corey Resendes capped the Warriors scoring with a 27-yard field goal. 
Notes
  • For Parks, he finishes the season with 1,240 yards and 12 touchdowns, both conference highs.
  • Parks' 103-yard rushing game gives him five-straight games with 100-plus yards while he also reached the mark in nine of the Owls' 11 games.
  • Parks finishes his Owls career with 2, 407 yards and 24 rushing touchdowns.
  • Wallace, the Owls' leading tackler finishes the year with 80 tackles and 258 for his career, good for fifth all-time in program history.
