NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team posted a 85-69 win against Adelphi in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at the James Moore Field House in New Haven, Conn. With the win, the Owls improve to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the NE10 while the Panthers drop to 5-3 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
Isaiah McLeod (Cambridge, Mass.) and
Luke Beesley (Champaign, Ill.) both recorded double-doubles with McLeod posting a game-high 26 points and 10 rebounds while Beesley tallied 10 points and 12 boards. The duo led five Owls in double figures as
Ulyen Coleman (Brockton, Mass.0 had 18 points and four assists while Kealan Ives (Providence, R.I.) had 15 points, four assists and three steals.
Joey Wallace (Rochester, N.Y.) had 10 points off the bench, all in the second half, in his season debut.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a tale of two halves as Adelphi held control of play through most of the first half before the Owls eventually jumped out to an eight-point lead with a minute to go in the first frame. SCSU would cling to a three-point lead, 43-40, heading into halftime.
- Adelphi's Nick Cambio and Ronnie Silva led the Panthers' first-half charge with 11 and eight points, respectively.
- McLeod was dominant in both halves, posting 14 points out of the gate on 5-of-9 shooting, while Ives hit on 2-of-3 from three-point range on his way to 11 points at the break. Coleman also had nine points and three assists to guide Southern to the first-half lead.
- Coming out of the break, Adelphi pulled within a point, 55-54, with 15:32 to go in regulation before an 17-2 run by the Owls gave them a 16-point lead with 9:31 to play. Coleman and Wallace both contributed five points in the stretch.
- Wallace's second three-pointer of the game with thirty-nine seconds to play gave SCSU a 19-point advantage, 85-66, for its largest lead of the night.
NOTES
- With his 26-point night against the Panthers, McLeod passed Luke Houston '15 for 17th place in career points at Southern Connecticut. He now stands at 1,284 and trails Kevin Connors '76 for 16th place with 1,287.
- McLeod returned to the Owls' lineup on Wednesday, Nov. 28 against New Haven, posting 29 points in a losing effort. He followed with 26 against Adelphi for his third 20-point game of the season.
- He checks in with a team-leading 21.6 points per game as well as 5.2 rebounds per contest.
- His 10 rebounds give him his second double-double of the season and matches his season-best total he reached against Post on Nov. 10.
- Coleman's 18 points are his most since the Owls' win at St. Rose on Nov. 14, when he dropped 18 on the Golden Knights. Coleman also had a season-best four assists in the win.
- Beesley's double-double was his fourth of the season. He's now pulled down double-digit rebounds in five of his last six games. The senior post player also shot 5-of-6 from the floor to put his season shooting percentage at 73.2%.
- Ives converted on 6-of-11 from the floor including 2-of-4 from long range on his way to a 15-point afternoon. The transfer from Rider has reached double-digit points in all but one game this season while averaging a 16.5 per game clip. He's also shooting 44.7% (17-38) from three-point range for the year.
- Wallace returned to the Owls lineup for the first time this season, grabbing 20 minutes as a reserve in his first action of the season. Wallace made the most of it, totaling 10 points in the second half.
