Owls Drop Decision To Adelphi

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team dropped a 63-47 decision to Adelphi this afternoon at Moore Field House. The Owls drop to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the Northeast 10 Conference, while the Panthers improve to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the NE10.

Junior Jessica Fressle (Levittown, N.Y.) led the offense for the Owls with 17 points, while senior Amanda Pfohl (Trumbull, Conn.) contributed 12 points. Junior Kiana Steinauer (Oakville, Ontario) tallied 14 boards and Imani Wheeler (Dumfries, Va.) chipped in five assists.

1st QUARTER (SCSU 20, ADE 19)
The Owls opened the game hot on a 12-4 run in the first four minutes, ignited by two three-pointers from Pfohl and Fressle. Adelphi countered with a 10-0 run to retain the lead. Both teams traded points for the remainder of the quarter, but the Panthers' run was enough of a cushion for a one-point lead at the end of the frame.

2nd QUARTER (ADE 36, SCSU 27)
The Panthers opened the second quarter on a 10-0 run while shooting 50% from the field in the process and held a lead of no-less-than seven points before heading into halftime with a nine-point lead, 36-27.

3rd QUARTER (ADE 43, SCSU 40)
The Owls outscored the Panthers 13-7 to open the second half, led by 10 points from Fressle. Southern's third quarter push put them within three points of the Panthers, but Adelphi would hold onto a three-point lead 43-40, heading into the final frame.

4th QUARTER (ADE 63, SCSU 47)
Adelphi came out shooting in the final quarter with an 11-0 run. They kept their tempo for the remainder of the game, which was enough to capture the victory in New Haven.
