Owls Fall To AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team suffered their third straight loss as they fell to American International College 71-49 at the Henry A. Butova Gymnasium in Springfield, Mass. The Yellow Jackets improve to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the NE10, while the Owls fall to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the NE10.

Junior Kiana Steinauer (Oakville, Ontario) collected her sixth double-double of the year with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while junior Imani Wheeler (Dumfries, Va.) tallied five assists and four steals on the night while senior Amanda Pfohl (Trumbull, Conn.) chipped in ten points for the Owls.

1st QUARTER (AIC 14, SCSU 8)
AIC opened the game on a 10-0 run over a six-minute span to take control early. Coach Kate Lynch called a time out and the Owls offense bounced back as Wheeler scored two back-to-back layups, but the Yellow Jackets continued their surge and finished the first up by six.

2nd QUARTER (AIC 26, SCSU 15)
The second quarter was controlled by the Yellow Jackets as they held the Owls to seven points in the frame, while scoring 12 of their own. AIC took an 11-point lead into halftime.

3rd QUARTER (AIC 41, SCSU 30)
Southern found life in the third quarter as they went on a 9-0 run and came within five points of the Yellow Jackets, 34-29. AIC regained control in the final minutes of the quarter extending their lead back to double-digits.

4th QUARTER (AIC 71, SCSU 49)
The final quarter of the game saw both teams increase their offense, but it was the Yellow Jackets who brought the heat, outscoring the Owls 30-20. A strong two-way game for AIC lead them to capture the 71-49 victory.

The Owls are set to travel to Pleasantville, N.Y. on Saturday, Dec. 8 for a 1:30 p.m. showing with Pace.
