Coleman Hits Buzzer-Beater To Push Owls Past Jefferson

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -  The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team beat Jefferson 69-68 at the Gallagher Center for its fourth straight win. The Owls improve to 6-5 overall while the Rams drop to 5-5 on the year.
 
Ulyen Coleman led the Owls tonight with 22 points shooting 5-of-7 from three-point range and collecting six rebounds. Joey Wallace scored a season-high 17 points had a team-high grabbing five offensive rebounds and shot 7-for-13 from the floor. Taurus Adams II had a season-high in points with 14 on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor and had three rebounds. Kealen Ives had a team-high seven rebounds and five assists while scoring six points.   
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A hard-fought affair as no team led by more than seven points for the entire game.
  • Both teams offenses struggled early on as the game didn't break double-digit points until the 11:25 mark when Jefferson went up 10-9.
  • The Owls had a quick 7-0 run at the 6:37 mark wtih Ives scoring four of the Owls seven points during that stretch, to give the Owls their largest lead of the game of seven. However, the Rams led at halftime 30-29.
  • The offenses surged in the second half and total nine lead changes in the final 20 minutes of play. 
  • Down 68-66 with eight second left in the game Coleman took the final shot of the game as time ran out to seal the 69-68 win over Jefferson.
 
NOTABLE FACTS
  • Coleman hit the game winning buzzer-beater three-pointer to give the Owls the 69-68 victory.
  • The sophomore tallied a team high 22 points and shot 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. He leads the team in three-point percentage at .500 shooting 31-for-62 so far this year.
  • Joey Wallace had a season-high scoring 17 points, this is the first time he has score more than 15 points in a game since November 18th, 2017.
  • Taurus Adams scored a season-high 14 points, the last time he scored double-digit points was November 10th, 2018 against Post University where he scored 11.
  • The Owls were red hot from three-point territory shooting 43.8% on the night on 7-of-16 shooting.
  • The Owls bench was productive scoring 31 of the Owls 69 total points.

The Owls are set to host Concordia (N.Y.) College on Wednesday, Dec. 19 with tip-off set for 2:30 p.m.
