PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball squad defeated Pace University, 62-57 at the Goldstein Fitness Center. The Owls improved to 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the NE10, while the Setters fall to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the NE10.
Junior
Kiana Steinauer (Oakville, Ontario) collected her seventh double-double of the year and led the Owls with 18 points and 17 rebounds along with three assists and a steal. Fellow junior
Imani Wheeler (Dumfries, Va.) tied a career-high and had a season-best 13 points with three assists and a steal, while senior
Amanda Pfohl (Trumbull, Conn.) continued her double-digit point streak with 13 points on the night and junior
Aaliyah Walker chipped in 11 points, two assists and two steals.
1st QUARTER (SCSU 24, PACE 13)
- The Owls took the offensive reigns to open the first quarter of play on a 14-3 run. They would control the remainder of the frame and lead Pace by 11-points heading into the next quarter.
2nd QUARTER (SCSU 43, PACE 26)
- Southern outscored Pace 19-13 in the second half to head into halftime with a 17-point lead heading into halftime.
3rd QUARTER (SCSU 51, PACE 47)
- Pace's offense came in place in the third frame as they took control at the beginning of the third quarter going on a 19-4 run to tie the game at 47-47, but the Owls scored four points in the final minute to take back the lead.
4th QUARTER (SCSU 62, PACE 57)
- The fourth quarter saw back-and-forth action between the Owls and the Setters, but the Owls came out on top outscoring Pace 11-10.
- The tenacity of the Owls tight defense allowed them capture the 62-57 wino ver the Setters in Pleasantville.
NOTABLE FACTS
- This is Steinauer's seventh double-double of the year and her ninth double-digit rebound game of the year. With her 17 rebound performance, Steinauer has moved into 11th all-time in rebounds with 610 career boards.
- Pfohl has collected double-digit points in eight of the Owls nine games. She has set her career-high in points in a season this year, collecting 103. Her previous single season-high in points was set at 52 points.
- The Owls led the game for 97.3% of the time and held it for a full 40 minutes.
