Owls Claim 86-82 Win In Overtime Thriller

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Five Owls recorded double-digit points as the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team defeated Pace University 86-82 in conference play at Goldstein Fitness Center for its third straight win. The Owls improve to 5-5 overall and 4-2 in the conference while the Setters drop to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the NE10.

Ulyen Coleman (Brockton, Mass.) led the Owls in scoring with 24 points, registered a season-high in assists with six and seven rebounds. Isaiah McLeod (Cambridge, Mass.) recorded his third double-double of the season scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds along with two assists in the win. Kealen Ives (Providence, R.I.) tallied 14 points, seven assists and seven rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • A back-and-forth scoring affair in the opening minutes of the game as there was a total of nine lead changes in the game. But Pace's late 12-5 run in the final five minutes before halftime gave the Setters a 39-32 lead.
  • Coleman was on fire in the second frame scoring 17 of his 24 points, starting with a four point play to open the scoring for the Owls. The Setters held the lead until the 13:25 mark when two good free throws by Ives gave the Owls a one point lead, 50-49.
  • Southern traded points for the remainder of the half until Coleman sunk a three-pointer with one second left to lead the Setters 74-71. Then, Pace rushed down the court and made a buzzer-beater three from half court to tie the game and force overtime.
  • Beesley made one of his two free throws to begin overtime and the Owls never looked backed leading by as many as five points in overtime to hold off the Setters and claim their third straight win.
