Owls Drop Decision To Saint Anselm

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team fell to Saint Anselm College, 80-69, at Moore Field House. The Hawks improve to 12-3 overall and 7-2 in the NE10, while the Owls fall to 10-7 overall and 4-5 in the NE10.
 
Amanda Pfohl (Trumbull, Conn.) broke her career-high in points with a total of 24, while shooting 41% from the field. She also added four rebounds and two steals. Kiana Steinauer (Oakville, Ontario) had an impressive 17 points and nine rebounds, while Imani Wheeler (Dumfries, Va.) tallied 13 points, seven assists and a career-high six steals. Aaliyah Walker (Toronto, Ontario) chipped in five assists for the Owls. 
 
1st QUARTER (STA 22, SCSU 17)
• The first
quarter was tight as the Hawks just narrowly outscored the Owls 22-17.
• Wheeler collected five of her 13 points in the in the first frame. 

2nd QUARTER (STA 42, SCSU 27)

• Saint Anselm's offense excelled in the second quarter, outscoring Southern 20-10.
• Steinauer finished the quarter with five of her eventual nine rebounds. 

3rd QUARTER (STA 61, SCSU 42)
• Southern went on an 11-3 run late in the quarter, but Saint Anselm outscored them by a four-point margin.

• Steinauer and Allie Smith (Danbury, Conn.) both picked up five points each.

4th QUARTER (STA 80, SCSU 69)

• Southern found their groove in the fourth quarter, opening the final frame on an 11-2 run. Despite the Owls outscoring the Hawks 27-19, a balanced attack from the Hawks through 40 minutes of play solidified their victory at Moore Field House.
• Pfohl scored 14 of her 24 total points in the fourth quarter.

• 
Southern fell to Saint Anselm, 80-69 on Jan. 15th.
Amanda Pfohl broke her career-high in points with 24. Her previous career-high of 20 was set on Dec. 19 against Concordia. With these 24 points, Pfohl has recorded double-digits points in 15 out of the Owls 17 games this season.
Imani Wheeler led the Owls in two categories: assists (7) and a career-high steals (6).
Kiana Steinauer tallied nine rebounds for the Owls. She currently sits at in third place all-time in rebounds with 773.
• For the eighth-straight game, the Owls had three-or-more players score in double-digits: Pfohl (24), Steinauer (17) and Wheeler (13).

The Owls will head to North Easton, Mass. on Sat., Jan. 19 for a conference matchup with Stonehill College at 1:30 p.m.
