Owls Down Franklin Pierce, 72-62

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team defeated Franklin Pierce, 72-62 at Moore Field House. The Owls improve to 12-7 overall and 6-5 in the NE10, while the Ravens drop to 3-13 overall and 1-10 in the NE10.    
    
Kiana Steinauer (Oakville, Ontario) led the offense for the Owls, collecting her 15th double-double of the season with 27 points and 18 rebounds; shooting 47% from the field, while chipping in a game-high three steals and three assists. Imani Wheeler (Dumfries, Va.) notched 22 points with a team-high four assists and two steals, while Amanda Pfohl collected 12 points, tallied one rebound and one steal. Allie Smith (Danbury, Conn.) had five rebounds and three assists, while Aaliyah Walker (Toronto, Ontario) chipped in eight points and a steal for the Owls.     
    
1st QUARTER (SCSU 19, FPU 17)    
• The Ravens opened the game with a 7-0 run, but the Owls counterattacked midway through the quarter with a 13-3 to take a 17-13 lead.    
• Southern shot 57.1 percent (8-for-14) from the field in the first frame.    
    
2nd QUARTER (SCSU 36, FPU 33)    
• A 12-4 run for the Owls in the second quarter capped by a jumper from Steinauer at 2:56 to give Southern the 31-29 lead over the Ravens, one they would hold for the remainder of the game.    
    
3rd QUARTER (SCSU 54, FPU 49)    
• Southern outscored the Ravens 18-16 in the third quarter, while holding their largest lead of the game at the 3:02 mark by 13 points,50-37.    
    
4th QUARTER (SCSU 72, FPU 62)    
• Solid offensive performances from Steinauer, Wheeler and Pfohl solidified the Owls 72-62 victory over Franklin Pierce.    
• Steinauer collected 11 of her eventual 27 points in the final frame.    
    
FACTS
Kiana Steinauer collected her NCAA DII leading 15th double-double of the season with 27 points and 18 rebounds.    
Amanda Pfohl has collected double-digit points in 17 of the Owls 19 games this season with 12 tonight.    
• The Owls shot over 35% from the field in each quarter, while finishing the game shooting 44.1% from the field as a whole.    
• For the tenth-straight game, the Owls had three-or-more players score in double-digit figures: Steinauer (27), Wheeler (22) and Pfohl (12).
