Men's Basketball Ousts Assumption, 73-63

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team defeated Assumption College, 73-63. The Owls improve to 13-8 overall and 8-5 in the conference while the Greyhounds fall to 6-14 overall and 2-11 in the conference.
 
Isaiah McLeod (Cambridge, Mass.) collected a team-high 23 points with five rebounds and one assist. Kealen Ives (Providence, R.I.) scored 20 points, collected a team-high seven assists and grabbed four rebounds. C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) tallied 17 points and a team-high seven rebounds. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless 2:37 Assumption finally broke the deadlock with a three-pointer. The Owls then rattled off an 11-0 run to take a 11-3 lead.
  • The Greyhounds chipped away at the Owls' lead, tying the game at 20. Southern closed out the first half on a 12-5 run and went into halftime with a 32-25 lead.
  • With the Owls leading 52-41 midway through the second half, the Greyhounds found their offensive groove and powered a 19-5 run to take a three-point lead, 60-57
  • The Owls climbed out of their late deficit with a 16-3 run over the game's last three minutes from the win.
 
FACTS
  • C.J. Seaforth tied his career-high in rebounds with seven. The last time he grabbed seven was against LIU-Post on Jan. 2, 2019.
  • This is the Owls third-straight win against NE10 opponents. The win pushes the Owls into first place in the Southwest Division. 
  • With his 21-points against Assumption, McLeod now stands in 10th place all-time with 1,573 career points and trails Tylon Smith '15 for 9th place all-time at SCSU with 1,761.
  • Three Owls finished with double-digit points: McLeod (23), Ives (20) and Seaforth (17).
 
UP NEXT
The Owls will travel to Colchester, Vt. on Feb. 2 for a 3:30 p.m. matchup against Saint Michael's Purple Knights.
